Amazon has pledged to buy 1,000 electric trucks from Eicher Motors to help reduce emissions from its delivery fleet. The deal, seen as a major shift towards environmentally-friendly deliveries, starts with the purchase of 50 electric vehicles. The trucks will be operated by delivery service provider Amazon Logistics and feature technology such as telematics, onboard diagnostics, and tracking, as well as air conditioning. By 2021 Amazon aims to use only renewable energy and would achieve that target through a combination of new energy facilities and large-scale and grid-connected renewable energy generation.
