The warning bells for Joshimath had rung many years ago. A committee consisting of 18 members was formed back then that suggested restrictions and some protective measures for the area. This committee had to o research the reason for landslides in the Joshimath region. This goes back to the year 1976 and suggested restricting the construction work there.
