US says it respects law in connection with Rahul Gandhi's disqualification

In reference to the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi in the defamation case, the US said that it has full respect for the law and that independence is very important for any democracy. 

“We are watching Mr Gandhi's case in Indian courts and engage with the government of India on our shared commitment to democratic values including of course......”, the US said in a statement.
