The Supreme Court has demanded a report regarding the killing of a gangster-politician and his brother in police custody two weeks ago in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj. The killings have raised questions about police brutality and impunity. Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf were killed by three attackers who posed as journalists and opened fire while they were being escorted by police to a medical check-up on April 15. The assailants surrendered after the shooting. The Supreme Court has requested a report from the Uttar Pradesh government regarding the assault on journalist Prashant Kanojia's home. The court also demanded a report on the police encounter that resulted in the death of Kanojia's son Asad. The special task force in Jhansi is accountable for Asad's death on April 13th
