Rahul Gandhi is headed to Surat, Gujarat, today to appeal against his two-year conviction in a defamation case filed by BJP MLA and former Gujarat minister Purnesh Modi. His stay in Gujarat will provide insight into the case and bring forth a desired result in his favor. Rahul Gandhi was convicted by a court in the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) in Rae Bareli on March 23rd and sentenced to two years for criminal defamation. The charges stemmed from his "Modi surname" remarks made in 2019. He was found guilty of violating Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 499 and 500. Gandhi is currently serving his two-year sentence.
