China's foreign minister Qin Gang has been removed from his position. Qin, who had not been seen in public since June, was replaced amid weeks of speculation and domestic political discussions, marking a significant crisis for President Xi Jinping. The move may be linked to Xi's efforts to tighten his control over the foreign ministry and assert his dominance in the leadership. Qin was removed from his post after a special session of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, following the Politburo's convening. Beijing's secretive handling of Qin's absence, attributed to "health reasons," led to widespread rumours.
