Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann has criticised the BJP-led government over the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), accusing the party of raising religious issues for political gain. Mann's comments follow those made last week by AAP's Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak, who said the party supported the UCC "in principle". Mann, a lawmaker in India, has questioned the necessity of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and emphasised the diversity of the country's population. He stated that people of different faiths have varying cultures and practices, and he did not understand why there was a need to tamper with it. The UCC proposes to replace existing personal laws, which vary according to religion.
