Pro-Khalistan activist Avtar Singh Khanda, who assisted Amritpal Singh in evading Punjab Police, has passed away at a Birmingham hospital in the UK. Khanda was associated with the Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar. Investigation agencies looking into the case of pro-Khalistan preacher Amritpal Singh have claimed that Gursewak Singh Khanda was his mentor and was responsible for his rise. The police detained Khanda's sister and mother while Singh was on the run. It is believed that Khanda was in touch with several extremists and played a key role in Singh's radicalisation.
