Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has departed for a tour of Japan, Papua New Guinea and Australia where he will attend three key multilateral summits, including the G7 and Quad. This marks his first international tour since the pandemic began, and comes at a time of heightened tensions between China and the West. The Quad summit, which includes Japan, Australia and the US, is expected to focus on creating an alternative to China's expanding influence in the Indo-Pacific region. Modi will also meet with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga for bilateral talks. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be attending the annual summit of the G7 advanced economies in Hiroshima, Japan, from May 19th to 21st. During the summit, Modi is expected to address global challenges such as food, fertiliser and energy security.
