PM Modi criticized the Congress' proposal to ban Bajrang Dal in its Karnataka election manifesto, accusing the party of trying to imprison worshippers of Lord Hanuman. Modi has ignited the issue of banning Bajrang Dal, a Hindu right-wing group, as Congress pledged it would stop the group from promoting violence if it comes to power in the state. Modi stated that Congress was copying the Communists with their move to ban the group. As the election draws closer, the ruling party has attacked the opposition for equating the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) with the Bajrang Dal, the youth wing of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). The election is set to take place in just one week.
