The Indian Parliament has approved amendments to GST laws that will enable a 28% tax on the full face value of bets in online gaming, horse race clubs, and casinos. The Rajya Sabha returned two proposed legislations regarding the taxation of betting and gambling operations. The government in India has introduced amendments to the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Act and the Integrated Goods and Services Tax Act (IGST), clarifying the tax treatment of supplies in casinos, horse racing and online gaming while also imposing goods and services tax (GST) liability on online money gaming providers.
