The communal violence erupted in 'Nayi SAdak' and 'DAda Miyaan' areas of Kanpur following the inflammatory remarks made by BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma against Prophet Mohammed while participating in a TV debate over the recent Gyanvapi Mosque issue. The UP PolIce arrested more than 24 persons including the head of a local Islamic NGO and booked a total of 36 persons through the three FIR's registered under different sections of IPC. As alleged, the links between the Islamic outfit Popular Front of India (PFI) and the violent protests is being probed further.
