Justice Gita Gopi of the Gujarat High Court has recused herself from hearing Rahul Gandhi's plea to stay his conviction in a defamation case. Gandhi had been convicted in a case related to his remarks calling BJP leaders "thieves" during the 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign. Rahul Gandhi's criminal revision petition challenging the Surat Sessions Court's order dismissing his application was moved before the Gujarat HC on Tuesday. The matter will now be listed before another bench. Gandhi is seeking a stay on his conviction in a defamation case filed by a BJP leader for his remark against the party's president, Amit Shah.
