India abstained from voting on Tuesday at the United Nations Human Rights Council over a resolution that sought an international investigation into alleged war crimes in Yemen. A majority of member states supported the resolution. India’s abstention is reportedly due to its preference for a negotiated political settlement to the conflict in the Middle Eastern nation. In past years, India has supported measures to address human rights violations in Yemen. However, this year, India opted for a non-partisan position and abstained from voting.
