Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat, who spearheaded protests against former Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, have been excused from competing in the selection trials for the Asian Games. Punia won gold at the recent World Championships, while Phogat took a silver medal, as both athletes hit out at Singh and accused him of corruption. Six weight categories, including Bajrang (65kg) and Vinesh (53kg), will hold trials in all three formats for the Indian wrestling team. Winners in these two categories will be named as reserves. However, no update has been given on the selection trials for the World Championship, which is only a few days away.
