The Indian Ministry of Home Affairs has suspended IAS officer Udit Prakash Rai with immediate effect for demolishing a monument and constructing a government accommodation. Rai is accused of violating the law and departmental proceedings are being contemplated. Rai is a 2007-batch AGMUT-cadre IAS officer. Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has recommended action against an official named Rai for allegedly receiving a bribe of ₹50 lakh to grant undue favors in two corruption cases. Rai is accused of accepting the bribe during his time as the vice-chairman of the Delhi Agricultural Marketing Board (DAMB). The investigation is ongoing, and no further details have been released.
