Former Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar has joined the Congress party ahead of the May 10 Assembly elections. He was handed the ‘B’ form to contest elections from Hub by KPCC president D.K. Shivakumar. Shettar is a senior leader of BJP, which is seeking a second term in office. Karnataka is set to witness a high-stakes battle between BJP and Congress. However, Shettar's shift to Congress comes as a surprise to many given he has been a prominent face of BJP for years. Mr. Shettar, who had won from the constituency six times since 1994 on a BJP ticket, was denied a ticket to contest the Karnataka Legislative Assembly elections. He will now be contesting on a Congress ticket for the first time.
