Enforcement Directorate cannot get hold accused in the custody

The Madras High Court has ruled that the Enforcement Directorate cannot detain an accused person for more than 24 hours under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. The ruling was made by Justice J Nisha Banu and was reported by Live Law. The High Court bench in India delivered a split verdict in a petition filed by the wife of jailed Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader V Senthil Balaji. She alleged that he had been illegally detained by the Enforcement Directorate. The bench comprised Justices Banu and Bharatha Chakravarthy.
