Siddaramaiah has been named the next Chief Minister of Indian state Karnataka, with DK Shivakumar his deputy. The announcement followed five days of uncertainty since the Congress party won the state's elections. The pair are set to take their oaths of office on Saturday. The Indian National Congress has appointed two co-presidents for its Karnataka state unit, Eshwar Khandre and Satish Jarkiholi, marking the first time the party has appointed two leaders to head a state unit. The move follows days of internal conflict and both contenders lobbying for the top job. The Congress has declined to reveal whether the pair will share the role or serve consecutive terms. Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar met with Congress general secretary KC Venugopal for the first time since their power struggle began.
