Collegium system of Supreme Court: The growing debate in India

With the help of the collegium system, the judges in the courts have been selected by their colleagues. The President appoints these judges after consulting them with the other judges. As per the Government, this system of appointment of judges needs to be reformed. In the past few days, many people including the Union law Minister and vice President have spoken against this collegium mechanism. 

"Across the globe judges do not appoint judges. But in India, they do," said Law Minister Kiren Rijiju.
