China is set to send its first civilian astronaut into space as part of a crewed mission to the Tiangong space station on Tuesday, the country's Manned Space Agency announced. The Shenzhou-12 spacecraft is scheduled to blast off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in the Gobi Desert in northwest China. This marks a significant milestone in the country's rapidly expanding space programme, which aims to establish a manned space station by 2022 and eventually send a crew to Mars.
