The Calcutta High Court has ordered that central paramilitary forces should remain deployed in West Bengal for 10 days after the declaration of results of the upcoming panchayat elections. The decision was made to ensure the safety and security of the people and to prevent any post-poll violence. The state government had requested the withdrawal of central forces after the elections. A division bench of Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam and Justice Uday Kumar has ordered the Tamil Nadu government to take preventive measures to curb any post-poll violence in the state's local body elections.
