Australia blocked a new Russian embassy near parliament amid its spying threat

Australia denied Russia's request to build a new embassy near Parliament House due to concerns of espionage and security threats. The land in question is leased by Russia and is located approximately 400 metres from Australia's parliamentary precinct in Canberra. The Australian government has passed laws to stop a Chinese company from developing a wind farm near a sensitive military training area. Earlier, the courts had refused to block the construction of the wind farm. The new laws were quickly put together after a meeting of Australia's National Security Committee. Prime Minister Albanese said the legislation would protect Australia's national security and said the government would always act in Australia's strategic interests.
