Ajit Pawar has filed a petition with the Election Commission of India, staking claim to the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and its election symbol after rival factions held meetings in Mumbai. Jayant Patil, a close associate of Sharad Pawar, has submitted a caveat with the Election Commission claiming that the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is moving to disqualify the nine MLAs who defected to join the BJP-led government in Maharashtra. Patil's faction is believed to have submitted their own caveat in response to a caveat filed by NCP leader Ajit Pawar. The defections have triggered a political crisis in Maharashtra, with the opposition parties accusing the BJP of indulging in horse-trading to form the government.
